Sooooo close to a shuffle (poker)

So one of the clubs on campus was running a poker tourney today, free buy in, and the top three seats get a prize.

I'm sitting at my first table, playing really tight, playing well, and I end up being chip leader of that table, take a person out. When we've lost enough people, everyone gets moved to a single table, and I'm either big stack or second seat, but close either way.

I start playing aggressively, end up by a big lead and then slow things down a little, coast towards the final four. I take out the number four, then the second seat takes out the third, and it's heads up. First place is an iPod Shuffle, and second seat is 100 nice poker chips.

Three hands into heads up, I've got pocket fours, and I know that the other player doesn't have a better pocket, so I push all in, and get called. Two over cards (no big surprise), but they're not suited. I'm a slight favorite at this point.

On the flop, he hits the eight, and my hopes disappear. He ends up winning the hand with eights to my fours, and then I'm sitting there like a limp noodle on tilt, almost no chips left, and trying to mount a comeback.

I manage to last out a dozen more hands, but I was so short stacked after the fours that it was inevitable.

Stupid call on my part, I should have waited for something with better odds.

Oh well, 11.5g clay filled chips are still nice.

Styro will cringe at this too.

Classic mistake imo. Best case 50/50. Worse case 20/80. Lots of people make it, and other factors play on this. But yea. All-in preflops are very bad with low cards. Pocket or not.

Imo you should have opened for about 8xbb. If reraised (i feel like you would have been reraised here) anything over 15xbb you can safely fold. Anything less, and so long as he has 100xbb or more left in his stack, id call to try and hit a set against him. Otherwise you're pot commited with only an 11% chance to win. Bad spot to be in.

Glad to see other people playing.. i thought me and foam were the only ones left. We should figure out a way to get a NL game online.

yeah... I think i would have waited.... at best you're 60/40 if he has only 1 overcard. if he has two, you're BARELY a favorite to win (like 52/48.) and at worse, you're completely dominated.

heads up poker is all about timing..... congrats on coming in 2nd, though.

I know I pulled a boner move there, I think that it was maybe my second or third mistake all day, which for me isn't bad.

Didnt mean to come down hard or anything.. i think playing 30 hours a week is starting to mess with my head. lol

2nd is always great, and poker chips are always a bonus.. okay poker time
