DIII Barbarian
DIII Barbarian
Have you guys read all there is to read about the barbarian class? I have been lazy and not really reading much for some time now to keep my hopes and dreams low, or else I become like a kid in a toy store, waiting for christmas, heh.. but now I couldn't brace myself any longer, so I read through all the skills and skill trees of the barbarian
I just wanted to ask you guys, since so many of us played the barbarian in DII, what you think about the "new" barbarian in DIII? Personally I think it looks very promising and based only on the skill trees, I think there could become several different viable builds instead of just the very few good ones in DII. Personally I hope that we will be forced to have more than just one primary attack skill. I would love it if the game basics requiered, and rewarded, players who have skill points (or "ranks") in lets say, WW and charge and perhaps even other attacks. Not too many though either, it's no fun if everyone has every skill of course, but perhaps two or maybe three?
I don't like the fury system at all, it's way too much WoW and too little DII in my opinion. They (the Devs) say stuff like that they didn't want to change the color scheme of items to not make DIII too far from old DII, but they completely revamp the game basics of the barbarian by removing his mana and replacing it with fury? It doesn't add up to me.. I think it will be all good once you play it though, I won't complain too much until I've tried it, but to be honest, it just doesn't feel right. Since many of the skills seem very "magical" (like the skills where the barb summons a huge hammer out of thin air and swings it at his enemies) I think noone would have mind of they kept the mana bulb, heh..

Hey, I think you should copy this topic and post it at the D3 forums, I think we need to get discussions started to get people interested in our website... Then I will look into the Barb stuff and give you my response...
I think this also creates the question, should we remove Diablo forums from this site and move all Diablo topics to the new site? Maybe this site could be just our general discussion for the old crew, and the D3 site could hold our gaming discussions... I might put on a "Other Games" section on those forums also, and copy some of our topics over to there...

Yeah, it doesn't matter to me if we discuss it here or there, so in order to at least try to get the other site buzzing with activity, lets try to keep all DIII-related topics there instead.
I don't have time for it now, leaving home in a few minutes, but I will make a new topic in the other site maybe tomorrow. Will also perhaps polish teh subject so that it may sound more intriguing for whatever outsiders may wander into that site
Keep this forum though, but add a sticky with caps-ed subject guiding all members to the others site. If some of the old-timers who don't visit often comes by, it's better they know straight away exactly where to find all DIII-realted topics.

honestly, I think changing the mana system is a good idea, infact i think mana is retarded all around.
atleast the barbarian doesn't have it anymore.
imo all the abilities should have a small cooldown instead of having to cost a resource, it would definitely require you to use more abilities. but without having to limit youself to a shitty resource like mana.

Copied and changed a little to suit the other forum (I think)Kadian wrote:Hey, I think you should copy this topic and post it at the D3 forums, I think we need to get discussions started to get people interested in our website... Then I will look into the Barb stuff and give you my response...

Re: DIII Barbarian
The only thing that is certain about my future D3 barb is the fact that no way in hell can he be as good as my D2 barbs on Europe and US West. I simply can't play as much as 8-9 years ago when spamming the trade channel for 4 hours just to get a high % CCBQ or something wasn't anything unusual...
Haha, I still remember the uproar when replying to Bane's question, I posted the exact stats of Darius-TvT, probably my best tweaker barb

Naah, same here. Even though I currently have time, unemployed and single.. sorta.. I still don't play as serious as I once did. I just don't have the patience anymore. I grow bored of games quite quickly nowadays unfortunetely.Darius wrote:The only thing that is certain about my future D3 barb is the fact that no way in hell can he be as good as my D2 barbs on Europe and US West. What uproar and what question of mine are you referring to? Was this something that happened on the old DII.net forums, or what? Nothing I can recall now.

i think as my buying power increased, my patience for games decreased
with D2 i was a poor college student
now, i got some extra income i can throw at games whenever im bored

Re: DIII Barbarian
An old story...Bane wrote:What uproar and what question of mine are you referring to? Was this something that happened on the old DII.net forums, or what? Nothing I can recall now.
Yeah, it was on the old forums. Basically, thanks to my forum and GimmeItam + Europe activities, after a while literally everyone was interested what I was up to regarding my barbs. You wouldn't believe how many comments I got when e.g. playing public duels or cows... The best one was like "Darius? THE Darius? What the fuck are you doing here? Seeing you play pub cows is like meeting Tom Cruise at Burger King"
One day I mentioned I would be building a new barb, specifically for (a) 3v3 games in clan league, (b) public duels/FFA which basically meant 100% gear flexibility. The barb was really good, also thanks to my clan mates who helped me fill my stash with incredible gear, as close to perfection as it was possible. Then you asked me to post his exact stats on the boards, like 1h dmg, HP, etc. I did. The stats were pretty good, and your answer was something like "Dar, this is not a barb. This is a fucking god!" After this, everyone wanted to see or duel my barb on Europe, or simply kill him no matter how. A direct follow-up of this was also this Tyrone guy showing up, posting how I harrassed my younger sister, how pitiful my barbs really are, etc. Do you remember this tool? There was also a guy called Infirmary, a necro on USWest who posted some crap about me. Then, coincidentally or not, we met in a pub duel game on West where I used my lvl 90 or 95 barb outfitted by Grim Acid, Skit, etc. He kinda changed his opinion and we even met on West just for pwning pub games together

Re: DIII Barbarian
Infirm and his lag spamming necro. That kid burned me up everytime we dueled because he'd pull the "I was waiting to hear the sound of the curse hitting you before I stopped casting" comments, knowing full well that it caused massive lag.

Haha, his dueling ethics - questionable at best Still, you have to admit he was a pretty good PvPer, even if a bit cheap sometimes.

Re: DIII Barbarian
Hehe, ok. Gotta admit I don't remember that i said that, or your answer, but I don't doubt it happening. I do ofc remember fully well the respect you had around those old forums.
Can't really remember Tyrone's name, but I definitely remember Infirm! That was one helluva guy, haha.. never PvP'd against him though, but it doesn't surprise me he had low ethics. hehe..
Man, I really wish DIII will bring times like that back. A forum buzzing with activity, a new game that challenges me and really makes me want to excel, explore and tweak my char's 'til perfection. I hope alot of old DII players will rejoin in DIII, meaning that they are slightly older, as we are, and perhaps (hopefully) can act mature and help keeping the forums fun and interresting to read instead of just a huge flame fest, heh..
Considering I have the fastest possible broadband nowadays as well, perhaps I can actually play some on an US server. I have to admit I feel like the 'outsider' in here sometimes, being the only one who has never actually played any kind of game with anyone of you.

Re: DIII Barbarian
we might be more mature but that also means we got alot less time for gaming
i dont think we'll go back to our heydays of diablo 2 and especially LOD
maybe DIII will bring in new nerds though
there are even rumors of it being on consoles...
but no dates yet

Re: DIII Barbarian
I think Shiram is right, a lot less time for playing and RL commitments mean a different experience for sure. Still, it should be fun.
Tyrone was the guy who was banned by Skit and kept re-registering under names of pornstars later, like Peter North, etc. He actually challenged me to a duel and when we met, he was pwned pretty badly tweaker vs. tweaker and complained about lag. Then he wanted me to duel his BvB barb, and since I didn't have one on the US servers (only on Europe), I got my hybrid to throw javs at him. He quit the game, calling me "cheap ass as predicted" or something... Quite hilarious
Bane, just curious - how fast is your connection? I'm moving soon, and in my new apartment, I'm gonna have 120 Mb/s download and 10 Mb/s upload. By Polish standards, it's FTL speed
Now I'm at 10/1 BTW.

Re: DIII Barbarian
I've got 24/1 but in reality it's something like ~22.5/1. It's not "the fastest shit there is", but it's the fastest I can get in my building. I don't think you can get faster speed via the cable (TV) networkDarius wrote: Bane, just curious - how fast is your connection? 120/10 sounds.. dreamy! It's not only FTL by polish standards, I think it's pretty much FTL everywhere, hehe.. How much will you pay for that, in euros? I worked with polish ppl in my last job, we talked alot and compared salaries and prices etc. It was very interresting. One girl invited me to poland and said we should go to dinner, haha Man, she was just stunning and really nice to talk to.. Hmm.. I think I got sidetracked there

Yeah, come to Poland, we'll finally meet IRL Actually, I may visit my wife's family in Sweden next summer. They live in Karlstad.
The connection I wrote about isn't available everywhere, just in selected locations with optical fiber network. From what I know, my building has one. If it does indeed, it's gonna cost me 200 PLN per month, i.e. close to 50 EUR. Pretty expensive compared to what I pay now but hell, it's worth it.

Re: DIII Barbarian
man we are so behind with internet connection speed here...
guess its an issue to cover such a big landmass with not so much population sprinkled on it
even though im in the biggest city in my province i cant get a better internet connection than 20/1 and that comes with traffic limit, and/or speed throttling
downloading torrents is a pain, you either go over your download limit, or you get your speed cut to nothing

If you do, I swear to god I will invade Poland and commit a plethora of atrocities if you do not gimme a hollar before you come here! Gothenburg is actually on the way to Karlstad, sorta. At least it's not a detour. Man, after all these years, it would be fricking fun to actually meet ya in person. Or maybe it would just be awkward, haha.. but seriously, I doubt it'll be that though. If nothing else, we can always talk games and shit Hehe..Darius wrote:Yeah, come to Poland, we'll finally meet IRL Actually, I may visit my wife's family in Sweden next summer. They live in Karlstad.

50 EUR is kinda steep tbh. I pay roughly 25-30 EUR for my current connection, and that is kinda pricy in Sweden, but since I live in the building I do, I don't have to many choices unfortunetely. It's either this ISP or a crappy, expensive, shitty modem :-/ But do you actually get 120/10 yourself or do you share it with your house? I know alot of larger apartmenet buildings here in sweden have their own 100/10 cables, but they share that between all apartmenets, so it's not as good as it sound for those ppl.
Shir, yeah, I think you are right. Sweden is a small country, and most ppl live kinda dense, so we've had pretty good connection speeds since the 90's. Some ten years ago or so, a couple of different companies all tried to beat eachother to offer the fastest broadbands. one of'em went bankrupt, but only after they had dug down miles and miles of fiber cables, haha.. I love the free competition of my capitalist country, sometimes it really does get better for the consumer.
Crow, didn't ya have an IP-ban back then? haha, was this from DII.net btw? "Banned! Fucktard!" and "B!FT!", hahaha.. loved that. Short, but straight to the point
