Ive never read the graphic novel, but from what i've read it is extremely faithful to it.
Which is the problem. There is no dramatic license... it just was stale. The action scenes are really REALLY good, but between them was droll and boring. It could have gone without the last 20 minutes or so of the film, but they were kept in because they were in the novel. For a superhero movie, there was very little super hero. And the Richard Nixon was a joke.

im so disciplined i fold my pocket kings 1 out of every 3 times i get them
yea i read the book, and the book was pretty bad
i dont see why this is supposed to be " the most celebrated graphic novel "
the book was long and drawn-out, with boring plot devices (that pirate story thing was completely useless and i started skipping it early)
the character are all so easily noticeable as archetypes...
about the movie, and book... i think it is meant to cast super hero in a new light, focus more on the people side of it and all
but those people their personalities and interaction are all so cliched and overused, they dont bring anything new and interesting to the plate
im going to see the movie tonight, im thinking i wont like either
but curiosity will make me part with 13$

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
LOL ... now I am actually TEMPTED to see it because one of the theatres around our area is giving it their "must-see movie guarantee" ... meaning if you watch it and don't like it then you get your money back.
"Environmentalism as a metaphysical ideology and as a worldview has absolutely nothing to do with natural sciences or with the climate."
why am i the one here who has to defend movies.
i usually hate most movies.
i had to defend cloverfield (which i thought was atleast decent)
and now i have to defend watchman?
not sure what you were expecting but i thought the movie was good.
although i will agree they touted it as an action movie, when its more of a murder/mystery with little action.
the story was good imo, and the ending may have even been better than the novel (i believe the novel had a huge psychic squid monster? lol)
but they were pretty faithful to the intents.
FYI, not an action movie.
lots of blue penis (not sure if thats a good thing....)
well i liked it, and i might even buy it on blueray/extended version because i thought it was incredible (i don't normally buy movies... i own like 2 movies on dvd/whatever and they're superbad and the big lebowski...)
i agree with the nixon thing he was fucking lame looking, way too exaggerated. but you might mean why was nixon president in 1985.
its an alternate reality film. Nixon gets elected then re-elected like 4? times during the cold war and whatnot (not very well explained although it showed it during the opening credit sequence).
personally i felt some of the action scenes detracted from what was going on in the movie like the one in the alley with night owl/silk specter and the gang. and the prison fight between them and like 10+ prisoners.
the other fight scenes were awesome and the one with the comedian at the very beginning (where he gets killed) is very entertaining.

no, i meant that nixon looked retarded. I got the alternate reality thing, i followed the movie pretty well, i just thought it was poor. I think the action scenes are all pretty good, and if it weren't for them, I would have felt even more ripped off than I was. It was being toted as this new superhero movie, and it wasn't. It tried to pull itself off as a murder mystery / suspense movie, and it kinda failed at that too.

im never gonna look at a mastercard commercial the same again
Going to the movies with yer wife; 16 dollars
Getting the popcorn, drinks, and snacks: 8 dollars

Re: Watchmen
never read the novel, never heard of the Watchmen before. Just seen the trailer for the movie. based on what you guys said, I won't be seeing on the cinema either.
Re: Watchmen
the trailers are misleading...
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Re: Watchmen
Hehe, it must have been like 6 months since it was on the cinemas? I have been planning to stream it, but have actually forgot it, until now. This thread just reminded me I should see this movie some day.sorma008 wrote:never read the novel, never heard of the Watchmen before.
