I played up until WoW came out. What's changed that would entice me into playing again? I *had* a Jedi.

Unfortunately, and this is the biggest thing that turns vets from SWG, is that they no longer have 32 different professions that you can dabble in for various effects. Now, they have 9 core professions (with trader taking 4 separate in one class, so 12 total) that can only have variations due in part to expertise, which is liken to WoW's talent trees.

The games combat system has been balanced quite a bit and no one profession rules the game, especially in PvP (however there are a few that have drastic measures to being flavor of the month, such as officer.)

The game doesnt work on an automatic attacking system, such as the precu days, where you would queue specials and attack commands and allow the game to automatically run for you. Also, the combat is more linear as opposed to numeric, where you have to use various degrees of the terrain, distance, line of sight, etc, to influence the outcome. You can actually play SWG's combat game based on a FPS to e honest.

Jump to Lightspeed has pretty much remained untouched for the majority of its existence, so if by small chance you loved that, the game is still the way it is, with some additions (Such as Kashyyyk, the YT-2400 off musty, and Chapter 8 which will be released real soon)

Crafting has been slightly dumbed down for some of the professions, such as armor and weaponsmith, but each of the 8 original crafting professions have been broken down into 4 main groups (munitions is armor/weapon, structures is architect/shipwright, domestics is food/clothing, and engineer picks up droids/master artisan and some weapons) Bio-engineer is gone practically with the beast master expertise exception (which any profession can choose to spend expertise in) and creature handler is different; you have to create your pet and level it.

The biggest thing that pissed people off the most is that Jedi is a starting profession, so those who were jedi during Precu and CU are no different than the newbies off the gen page. However, as an older jedi, you get to experience the "Elder jedi" play, where you get a sexy crystal and an elder-only robe to wear which is by far better than anything else in game for jedi.

the civil war means something now, as there are rankings that mean something. the old system for getting faction is still in, but has no bearing on the civil war. GCW and GCW points gained through higher level experiences in the war grant ranking which allow purchasing higher level items, such as command barc speeders, assistance transmittors and banners with area buffing capabilities. OFficer ranks give awesome buffs as well.

PvP can be both long and drawn out or quick and decisive. Restuss, a city on Rori, has become a permanent PvP zone (as well as 3 PvP bases located on Talus, Corellia and Naboo)

As of late, the dev team has been focusing more on content as well, so our content is getting bigger and becoming more enjoyable, especially for those who like late game stuff.

If you have anything else you want to know about specifically, let me know Petey. Also, you may have a 15 day try out for your old account stashed away you could use to turn on the game and check out the new stuff.

One last thing, if ANYONE has a toon they havent played since prenge, when you log in the screen may show you an option for respecing or changing to one of the new 9 professions. do NOT use this option. In your inventory, you should have a respec tool. look at this respec tool as it will give you a "respec level" value. If this value is higher than 80, use a charge off your tool, otherwise you may use the initial respec. Levels in this game go up to 90 now, so...

They've been working on it for 3 years

Frankly, and this bothers me most, I dont understand why anyone would consider playing anything pre-nge, sans having the capability of diversifying your profession. The game as a mechanic whole works a lot more seemlessly than before.

because not all of us were rifles/weaponsmith the entire pre-cu timeframe. Having a different build is what made us stronger as a guild and team in pvp. Nothing was cookie cutter back then because as roam would point out there were like 265K combinations of skills. I don't want to be just a BH or Spy or Medic anymore the Iconic professions killed what the game was made to be when it first went live.

yea i kinda remember having alot of fun as a master doctor/master rifleman, plus some scout skills, iirc. I could hunt some cool monsters solo, and had a steady stream of cash with buffing, also about the only thing i could contribute to Stone.

Eh I mean I liked playing Jedi, but the thing that bugs me in the game is that Jedi !> all, which is how it should be. Jedi used to be special, and now anyone can roll a Jedi? That seems retarded to me. The old system where you had to work really hard to get to Jedi was something that was more interesting. I don't see any reason to even look at SWG, unless they fixed that core mistake, imo.

Jedi should not be better than everything, and thats what really killed this game. Those people who could spend countless hours grinding out thousands of millions of experience to get all 32 holos to get a jedi, versus the casual player who enjoyed pvp. A mmo shouldnt be about who spends the most time grinding to achieve something, its a massive community experience where you are s'pose to interact with hundreds of peers in a universe of star warsy goodness.

Jedi in the current game are what jedi should be, uber melee boss tanks with unique characteristics. Hell, the clone troopers were able to gafold jedi and jedi knights with ease, why should 1 toon owned by a player be able to walk over all the other professions.

SWG in the New game enhancements removed the "alpha class" so that everyone is "almost" even...

Jedi should be more powerful then anything in the game. My god the time it took to grind one and unlock one for most people was insane. I know my 31 professions to unlock sucked pretty hardcore. Jedi weren't the end all profession either, alot of Jedi died with force left from time to time.

Exceptional builds and skilled players back in the day could toast Jedi 1v1, its the morons like Royce and his merry band of 12 year olds that made Jedi look uber. In PvE a Jedi was only better then most other classes when it was vs heavy armor targets. Two riflemen could out kill a Jedi anytime of the week and not have to worry about losing a day or two worth of grinding in XP if they died.

The NGE didn't remove the "Alpha Class" it just made the most common professions cookie cutter, Medic, BH, Commando, Jedi... Thats all they need for iconic professions.

In my opinion, here is how you make SWG a good game.

1. 32 professions, where you can master about 2 or 3 professions
2. Force sensitive slots which are strong, but very expensive xp wise
3. Unlock enough force slots and then you are able to buy into a basic jedi skill. Something so basic where you aren't allowed a LS.
4. Once you complete the basic jedi level, you become an apprentice and you HAVE to take a master. It could be either an in game master, who gives quests to advance. Or a real life master, where they can train you ( which is 100% required for them to advance.
5. Once you complete your apprenticeship, you must then take an apprentice in order to advance to master.

The xp drain from death should be moderate. The quest for jedi should be time intensive and xp intensive. What is the reward? Nothing. It should be a balanced class just like everything else. Your reward is being a jedi. You will have pros and cons like everything else. Focus on melee, light force powers, or dark force powers. Melee is the best meleer in the game. Light is the best group buffer. Dark is the best group debuffer.
