Hola amigos,
I'm having trouble gettign consistently high DL speed on torrents. I don't know what's wrong, but it's kidna anoying to know I can DL in 2.5 mb or so but awfully seldom get more than 500kb :-/
So, here the spec:
internet connection: 22.5 mbit down
torrent client: utorrent
port: opened through the firewall (router)
Dunno what the hell is causing this. I know I can get 2.5mb downloads, I usually get that when downloading from like an FPS or a specific site, btu it's just my torrent that refuses to go beyond 500kb..
I know it has to do with seeders/leechers ofc, but even on huge torrents with hundreds of seeders I seldom connect to more than a few and usually only for a brief moment, downloading a part of teh torrent quickly than going back to a low overall dl-rate.
Dunno if anyone can give any real answer based on the info I provided, but maybe one of you have had teh same problem and came up with an answer to it.
Cheers, and have a great weekend.

Re: Q about torrent clients and DL speed
that kinda sounds like speed throttling
check if your isp does speed throttling, if they do you wont get better speeds

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Re: Q about torrent clients and DL speed
What's speed throttling? Haven't really heard that expression before..
Edit: googled it. You mean that my ISP is consciously thwarting my Dl speed? Sounds wierd, why would they do that? I mean, I know I can reach my broadbands true potential, it's just on torrents I can't.
May seem like a noobish question, but does TPB choke you DL speed if your overall ratio is too low? AFAIK it's only the specific torrent which is regulated by such things, and I always use unlimitied upload rates, which isn't much to begin with since I only have 1mb upload or something like that.

Re: Q about torrent clients and DL speed
IMO, it's nothing to worry about, just the nature of P2P. My P2P DL speed always "sucks" compared to single site DLs as well. It's seeders, making new connections, limited UL speeds, etc. etc. that make torrenting slow. I don't think it's your ISP's fault. BTW, Windows and antivirus/firewall can also limit the number of open connections for security reasons so this also might be a factor.

Re: Q about torrent clients and DL speed
my old isp used to do speed throttling, and just for people using p2p torrents
my dl speed was lowered to ridicule amounts when trying to dl any torrents from 4 in the afternoon till 2 in the morning, i think
and they said they we're doing it so every client can get good speeds
as if people dling torrents would slow down the whole network
so yea speed throttling is usually down especially for torrents
at least its this way here with bell

Re: Q about torrent clients and DL speed
My p2p is generally faster than single site downloads. But then again, i normally download from sites that pretty much say they aren't giving you good speeds like free rapidshare.
