such a project requires too much budget for what it is

You would think a Diablo series movie would do them better then this, eh? Dont they hold the rights to make a movie called Diablo anyhow? (I seem to recall they won a case to change a big motion picture a few years back)

i agree
doing a diablo movie is easier as you only need a couple good human, and hordes of cgi baddies
but warcraft implis larger scale wars, and less human protagonists

So imagine the aliens from Aliens had evolved so they could breed gigantic, flying aliens that could shoot like gunships or spew clouds of poison. There are other creatures that can burrow underground and fire spikes up to impale enemy troops and giant bugs the size of tanks with tusks that can rip through steel.

And they're engaged in a war with a futuristic humanity, who fights back with soldiers in mechanized armor and walking tanks two stories tall...

...and both of them are at war with an even more advanced alien race, a cultured, intelligent species as far above humans on the cultural scale as the humans are above the bugs.

"You want to make a movie about a strategy game? What, with little pieces you move around like Risk? What? No, I did play the copy you gave me. It's a game about mineral farming, right? And I'm looking at your proposed budget on this... did you accidentally put an extra zero on the end there? Jim, are you on the drugs again?"

you mean starship troopers 2 roam?
cause thats kinda what it sounds like :p

(lets face it game ported to movies are usually subpar)

edit : wow ok, so there was already a starship troopers 2.. so lets say a third one then

my point is, a starcraft movie would have just looked like a starship troopers movie, wich is not that cool
i dont think they could render such a project in any way to make it as cool as it should be
i mean, it would require LoTR kinda budget to make it viable

I dont think a star craft movie would cater to well in the genre it would be played for; sci fi. I think it would only cater to the star craft fanboi

people would be turned off just because its a movie of a game
none fared good except maybe for resident evil, and that one game adapts better to movie than most other

may i remind all of you of the atrocious super mario movie??

starcraft has badass aliens
badass humans

and the protoss

Its like every scifi thing, endless storylines, it would have required a TON of money and would have been insane.

Warcraft will suck.
Diablo would suck.
Starcraft would be amazing.

theres no way they would invest enough money in a starcraft movie to make it cool
it could be cool, if they did spend enough money, and had a great director
but such thing arent likely to happen

Shir, they had plans to make it ages ago. They didnt make it literally because of the quote above. Too much money.

imo it would fail because the story isnt centered on one person. To make a movie fitting enough that people would enjoy, specially when it comes to a proverbial fight of good v evil you would need a protagonist and an antagonist, a central figure representing each side. starcraft doesnt offer that imo.

It's been ages since I played SC but the whole story 'boot the human girl becoming zerg and the old humans, UEC vs Terrans, and the two diff. protoss , man, SC has TONS of diff. possibilities for making a movie! And the awesome, 'uber-traitor/anti-hero in Brood Wars, forgot his name too, black dude in yellow armor..

Back to subject: WoW movie.. Dunno, maybe?
