American car companies
I was reading a interesting article in my local paper about new highly fuel efficient diesel cars that are coming out, sounds like a good idea right? Here's a clip of the article.
The last Volkswagen diesel available was the 2006 model, according to officials at Broadway Automotive, 2700 S. Ashland Ave., Green Bay. The diesel Jetta sedan will be back in 2008 models, however, in a cleaner running version that will meet emissions standards in all 50 states.
BMW plans to begin selling one or more vehicles with a 3.0 liter twin turbo diesel engine here by the end of 2008. The BMW diesels will be available in all 50 states.
Audi is expected to sell a diesel version of its Q7 SUV here.
Nissan and Honda will be entering the market with diesel cars. Nissan recently announced it intends to bring a diesel version of its Maxima sedan stateside, and Honda says it will sell a diesel four-cylinder car here in a few years.
Hyundai is planning a diesel SUV for the U.S. market in 2009 or 2010.
Ford and General Motors have no plans for diesel passenger cars here.
See that last line?? What the hell is wrong with those two car companies, they sit and bitch out their labor force being there problem.....well fuck, why don't you try making cars people want, you know, follow the trends in car sales or something, maybe then you can make a profit for once. Everytime I read anything about whats new and exciting about cars, expecially about better gas mileage, the article includes a line like "Ford and GM have no plans too....." It's probably a dumb thing to be pissed off about, but it just bothers me that they whine about their profits and ask for government help and all that, and then you see this crap all the time, I want to tell them to get a fucking clue!

now I'm not a car person at all but when I think of the vehicles that America does best I think of muscle cars, pickup trucks, and mini vans
if you're driving one of them you probably didn't have great mpg on your high priority list when buying the car
BMW, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Audi... these are companies that make family sedans, economy cars, and luxury sedans that can really use the mpg as a selling point

so yea
If they make a sexy hybrid then people wont buy the gas guzzlers, thus the car/gas companies lose out on all that money. Cmon gas and transportation has to work together somehow. And dont forget about the grassy knoll and magic bullet theory!
Personally I have a brand new 07' chevy colorado and the last thing i was worried about when I bought it was gas mileage, however, the euro/asia versions of the colorado do come in a pretty sexy deisel.
The remake cars have a huge following but the problem is the price tag that comes with it. The GTO for instance was too flashy for most of the 40+ year old people and to expensive for the college kids.
The new Dodge Challenger is on 3 of my buddies lists to buy, so long as its under 35k theyre all over it. I dont think I have a single person jumping at a chance to get a hybrid though, but we're early 20's so just dont give a shit.

Well, first of all, Americans never bought into diesel cars much at all. Mercs, Volvos, etc were kinda for the eccentric, not the general public. People don't like messing with cars that stink up the place that much, while Europeans seem more favorable to that... probably because their cities stink anyway.
Hybrids will make it when the price/performance ratio is in line with everything else. They're getting closer, but we still like to go fast when we push the pedal.

Most people buy a car based on two things. Price and look. Some people then either go for mpg or speed.
Start making hybrid SUVs. They already cost a retarded amount, and could use a boost to mpg.

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
There probably isn't any meaning in life. Perhaps you can find something interesting to do while you are alive. Like how you found that flower. Like how I found you.
Buttons aren't toys.

But yea, diesels even with a particle filter are still the dirty boys. Although the new common rail PF diesels are already very solid engines - awesome mpg, great performance, and they even barely sound like diesels.

Well, if you didn't read the article, this is a new breed of diesel which runs quiet and doesn't stink, and gets better mileage, so there really isn't any reason to not make one or two in your line of cars and small trucks. Trust me, I already see that in the construction trade most guys are going to diesel pickups rather than huge V8 regular gasoline trucks that get 8 mpg, this country is definitally ready for it, it's just Ford and GM that aren't.
I think hybrid cars are a great idea but until they make a hybrid car that looks flashy enough that people 16-45 are going to buy it they'll still be sittin at the dealership. You make a hybrid eclipse or mustang or GTO or charger etc and its bank.
I just found out last week that next year Chevys are givin the Colorado a V8 Biatches. And yea Im probably gonna buy it. I would like to see some deisel additions over here but like i said in the post above, GM atleast has a lot of deisel versions in the EU/Asia scene but until theres more of a demand here they probably wont be bringing them over here.

I blamed god, I hated him for ruining my life, but then I realized something, you cannot be angry with god and not believe in him at the same time. Nobody can.
