Uber budget laptop

Post by RoamingMadness »

Can anyone give me some solid advice on REALLY cheap laptops? I'm buying one for just the purpose of writing papers and mild internet surfing over wifi. No real downloading, no gaming at all, and battery life doesn't need to be more than 3 hours.

Ideally I want to spend as little as possible, that wont be a total piece of junk.

Ideal price range: $200

Max price range: $400

I know that's not a lot to work with. That's why i need help. This is the first laptop I've ever bought. So anything that helps me avoid total newb mistakes is appreciated.

I've bought my last two laptops from Dell's outlet (delloutlet.com). They have the dell refurbs and scratch/dents, but you probably still won't find one for under $450 unless you get lucky and/or look at a 14" one or something...

could work if you get a netbook, but those are underpowered, and quite small
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Ended up buying...

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/laptops/essen ... eries/b570

15.6 display
i3 core, 2.2 Ghz
4GB RAM
500GB
island style keyboard
windows 7

$370

Only had it for a day but it's really nice compared to my current desktop (2.9 ghz, 2gb RAM, 20GB HD)

Thats what happens when you have a hardware failure and and you want to rebuild without buying new parts. You look through the stack of old parts and make something work.
