Writers?

Post by RoamingMadness »

Anyone ever written anything? Had anything published? I think at some point i'll try my hand at a book or two, among other dreams.

I have a couple decent ideas. I guess i should just start writing, hah.

I've written an outline and a set of character profiles for a novel based partly on the actual experiences of an old friend who was a Korean War/Vietnam War vet. It was some time ago, and I don't know if I could lay hands on them again. Have to dig through all my old data CDs from when I moved from computer to computer.

I've written a few short stories in the Forgotten Realms fantasy world. I used them in an "overall plot" form for my D&D adventures. Actually, I wanted to submit one of them to WotC for the writing contest but I didn't have time to translate it into English (it's in PL).

Heh, the story would make quite a decent entry chapter for a book, I guess. Too bad I'm not allowed to publish it because of copyright to the FR world.

i'd always thought about trying to write a novel or some such, only problem i ran into was figuring out what kind of setting to write in, because no matter what any setting is going to be cliche'd but still theres tons of types of setting from fantasy to adventure, horror, romance and all that shit, then ya gotta decide am i going to write medival times or modern, futuristic? completely fictional? maybe underwater!!!!

its so hectic trying to come up with a half original idea without being thought of as hack.

hell i read in a book that people disliked Frank Herberts Dune series because it harked back too much to LOTR!!! wtf? futuristic desert world > medival fantasy world?

anyways i don't really have to focus to write a real novel, i was thinking short stories, but i dunno really, i always wanted to write about my life, although seemingly unentertaining not many people write about the lives of those who live the ordinary life, instead opting for the lives of action and adventure or mystery.

or maybe i just don't read enough.

I use to think of that.. but then i realized people don't really care. If you have a good story, a few twists. Well developped characters, and a good command of writing, you will do well.
