DDO - Play for free

Post by Genie »

Dungeons and Dragons Online just went free to play. turbine went Free to play calling it Dungeons and Dragons Online; Eberron Unlimited. The deal is like this; when you play, you get the full game and all its areas for the most part free. However you are limited (slightly) on the classes you can get and some of the races. You can choose to buy those races, classes, items and really awesome areas to play in from the DDO store using real cash. In game, you earn Favor points which will can be spent in the store too, and so far getting favor is pretty cheesily easy. I got 100 favor between 2 toons on 2 separate servers in one day doing a starter quest.

Friends of mine plan on playing this, so I decided to hook up with them for a while.

I'm gonna try it out, won't hurt. With my new cable I might even be able to play on an american server with decent connection (though the time zone difference is a bitch, hehe)

I'll dl it now. Thanks for the tip

Edit: downloaded and installed. tried to find which world to play, but couldn't. I'm in a kinda hurry, so tell me, which world should I sign up to?

I just have to ask.. SAINTS ROW 2!?!?!?!

And here I thought you had a good taste in games ;) hehe.. Man, I tried that game a long time ago, and I gotta say, compared to GTA it seemed very old already when it was released. Had it been released like 4 years ago, maybe it would been 'better', relatively, so to speak.

the thing about grand theft auto 4 and saints row is this

gta4 is better graphically and has higher production values
saints row 2 is just ALOT more fun, the missions are usually action-packed and there is a great humour in that, that arcs back to when grand theft auto was still a fun game to play

so i hated gta4, and i love saints row 2
i play online with my buddies, and the character customization is great too
and the fact that it can be bought new for 20 bucks doesnt hurt either

agree ^ saints row is more fun, but also less so for different reasons.

but it is better for mindless fun than gta4

My first question still stands unanswered though, if I should try this, which server do you play on?

Playing this game solo is just a waste of time I guess, so if I can't hook up with anyone I won't play it at all, I guess.

Hehe ok. I thought you meant you were unoriginal with a cookie-cutter character build.

Genie is the king of worthless builds

Ranger paladin in d2
weaponsmith / rifleman in swg. "genie you did remember to take strafe 2 off the hotbar right?"

and the list goes on.
"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps and I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and the Iraq and everywhere like such as and I believe that they should our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for us."

Friends don't let friends educate their children in South Carolina

Hehehe ok, I'm seeing him playing a bard/paladin halfling or something then :P

I always think the cool and unusual builds will be fun to play, but in the end when every other char kicks your ass, it just doesn't seem all that fun anymore, hehe..Like the pot-throwing barb in DII and builds like that :)

Then don't waste your time playing that rather crappy game. Not that NVN is such a great game, but if you wanna play a decent 3.5 edition, I'd recommend NVN over DDO any day, especially the expansion HotU.

well i could illegaly download a copy... but i wouldnt do that!
anyways, from what i remember i tried those games some long while back, and never did really get into them, though i think it bears to re-check on them now.
My knowledge of d20 games and their mechanics is much better now.

edit : i was also hoping one or two of my gaming buddies would join up, and at least said he would try DDO
