There probably isn't any meaning in life. Perhaps you can find something interesting to do while you are alive. Like how you found that flower. Like how I found you.

i read it...very interesting. This isn't as big as its hype imo. The kid paid 7k a month for adevertising and gave the entire thing to "webwordofmouth" He's promised to keep the site up for 5 years... 7k a month for 5 years is alot of money...and what happens if he ends it? Well, obviously traffic goes down..and the people that bought the adds are going to be a little peeved....considering they were decieved....it could end up being a big lawsuit soon.

I don't understand why he'd get sued. Mikeys rant made no sense to me.

I dun understand either, why will he likely be sued? He has withheld his end of the bargain, right? Most of'em companies who advertised has prolly got what they paid for - publicity.RoamingMadness wrote:I don't understand why he'd get sued. Mikeys rant made no sense to me.
And btw Roam, Mikey hasn't posted in this thread, I guess you mean Styrofoam's first post (#5 in this thread).

He can be sued if they (the companies) feel he has withheld (or lied about) any information regarding the boom of his website. Obviously, this kid paid 7000$ a month for old-fashioned advertising, and yet attributed the success of the site to only "webwordofmouth." That is misleading, and assuming he stops the 7k a month paid-for-advertising, the site's traffic is likely to dip...and by dip i mean take a sharp nose dive....if that happens, obviously, he lied, and the companies are likely within their rights to sue. Whether they'd win remains to be seen, but i have a feeling they would.

Ahh.
I'm honestly not sure. But even if he kept up the $7k a month, he's still in the green about $700k+ over 5 years.

maybe...maybe not.
He can't sell more pixels on his site...they've all been sold now, or nearly all...meaning that the site will no longer generate any income...none. Whats more, is the kid is paying 7k a month for 5 years...totaling a whopping 420,000$ advertising fee over the course of the 5 years.. Thats not even including the LARGE fees the kid has to pay for the bandwidth he uses on the server, which can quickly add up to an additional $1-2,000 depending on how much traffic his site actually gets, which is roughly another 100,000 dollars.
While he's definately still made money, the profits are no where near a million dollars. 500,000 is a better estimate before the government takes their share. And while this is still a large sum of money - Its no where near the hype that surrounded it, but close to half. And quite frankly, i don't expect the kid to continue the needless payments of 7,000$ monthly for advertising meant solely for generating buyers for his pixels...He's going to get sued.

$700,000 is still a nice fucking paycheck.

The visitors will DEFINATELY die off, this is a true media hype method.
What I think is being missed is that the advertising he paid for seems to have been to draw people's attention to the story, of the clever student earning a mill in 4 months with a clever internet advertising idea.
This means getting websites like the bbc to run stories on him, newspapers, radio shows, and tv interviews.
He spent the advertising money on publicity for him and his idea rather than the website.
If he had spent it on the website in the traditional sense, you would have seen loads of banners for milliondollarhomepage.com on websites and in newspapers. Instead of this he rather cleverly took advantage of the publics interest in a young student making good.
Everyone (him, the PR guy and the investors) knew the publicity would be short lived, it's a 1 week story about a guy with an idea making money, the public are bound to lose interest.
The companies that bought the pixels KNEW that this would get them an immediate sudden surge of attention and publicity, especially as many of the companies were often listed in the website/newspaper publicity articles.
They didn't buy the pixels because they thought that this would be a great long term form of advertising, it is not a good form of advertising, the adverts are small and it's hard to tell what the smaller ones are for. The companies don't care, this was a quick small publicity stunt for them which has brought about a large amount of public interest from them very quickly.
I can't see him being sued, or at least successfully when he cancels the 7 grand PR work.
He also seems like he is sensible, when asked what he would do with the money he said he had a couple of business ideas he was going to invest in, that and new socks...

Sueing him imo would also be rather pointless.
I mean.. are you telling me that if you paid $1,000 for an ad and tried to sue him.. you'd get more than your money back?
I really don't see that. I think he's pretty safe.
