So, i have never really known what i want to do with my life. I am interested in many things, love to learn, but to settle down and pick something has always been daunting... until recently, when i started doing stand-up. After stand-up, i decided to get into an Improv class, to help with the thinking on my feet thing. It was the most amazing class I think i've ever had. After I did my improv show on sunday i went home thinking to myself "damn, i'm kinda depressed this is over..." and wanting more... for the first time i've actually wanted to do something...
So, In order to continue my education in theatre arts, I have to take 3 more hours to qualify for financial aid. okay. easy, just 500$ for 3 hours... a bit steep because they put the fees on first then hourly tuition, but acceptable. I would take 3 hours in the spring, and go full time in the fall (hopefully graduate the following fall)
Except now, my car has broken down. Its likely a cracked block in the engine, although, it could be a blown head gasket, and it looks like i'm going to be set back about $2000 or more dollars. I do not want to buy another car, but it looks as if that is what is going to happen. awesome.
The problem is that now, because of the timing of this ridiculous bullshit, i will not have the 500$ to pay for the 3 hours of credit i need to qualify for financial aid, which means i won't be able to finish my education...which means I'll be 30 before i'm out of college. Which makes life worse because at 30, in the theatre, you're ancient. fucking brilliant! Anyhow, just thought I'd come here and vent.
Life is getting to me...
Life is getting to me...
im so disciplined i fold my pocket kings 1 out of every 3 times i get them
Will Ferrell was like 30++ before he became famous. If your heart is set on it, you'll reach what you aim for.
Money is just money, they come and go. Go to a theatre and join a group of amateur actors or something, practice your acting skills for free (which can come in handy also for comedians and stand-ups).
Godspeed.

<5Nme dream i can see tou I tell you how I fell???
one of my buds is actually in a similar situation
decent work in a bank, but it wasnt doing it for him
so he tried for a tv writting and production class and got it
now he is 28 and will be past 29 when he'll be done, and expects to be 10k$ in debt by then, but to him its worth it
so you just figure out the numbers and tally if its worth it or not...

Styro, to be honest, i dont think you have anything to worry about. While 30 is very old to not have a career in the entertainment industry, keep in mind most people dont start at 30. The people who are 30 typically are failures because they've been trying for a decade.
Your bigger problem is where you live. You need to move to New York or LA if you really want to go into the entertainment industry. You need to be able to move up through the ranks if you're doing comedy.
If you REALLY want to get things rolling, borrow the money from somewhere. Parents, friends, your bank... i mean 500 really isnt that much.
I feel your pain though brother. I'll be 40k in debt and 30 by the time im out of college.

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
There probably isn't any meaning in life. Perhaps you can find something interesting to do while you are alive. Like how you found that flower. Like how I found you.
Buttons aren't toys.

I'm not even sure i want to act for a living. maybe teach drama in highschool, or be a key grip, or bestboy, or something like that, i dunno. But i know that doing the improv show was just amazing.RoamingMadness wrote:Styro, to be honest, i dont think you have anything to worry about.
