not everything can be 100% original, i dont care how stupid you think i sound, its the truth.
how many movies are there with the same damn plot? the same ending? they all just have different characters, which are normally not too different from every movie of the same style. What about remakes? do you not appriciate those either? some remakes are better than the original.
and like i said earlier, just look at the simpsons and family guy. there is even a show where they point out all the episodes that are almost 100% identical. do you hate family guy for being that close?

Okay. Give me an example of two shows that are almost 100% identical. Don't just say it.
And there are two completely different things i believe you're talking about. One is creative material which is similar, or based on the same format. Two is stealing material.
If two people sit down and come up with jokes for days.. im sure at least one of them will be very close. Thats not a big deal. But when someone is going into comedy, you assume they like comedy. And when they are playing at the same clubs as certain comedians, its obvious they know each others work. And when one of them is being targeted by six other comedians. Saying the exact same thing. That they joke MULTIPLE jokes that "carlos" is telling. It's complete shit.
Here is what happened.
A guy named Ned looks Mexican, has no talent and wants to become a comedian. He hears jokes from people like George Lopez, Dave Chappele and others.. who are known but not huge.. and works them into his act, as his own creative matierals. Among his own jokes. Then pretends to be mexican, and gives himself a mexican sounding name to appeal to a cultural group.
This guy ISN'T shit. Anyone who can speak on stage could do what he does. Anyone. You could do it. I could do. He doesn't deserve 1/10th of the credit he gets, and should be exposed for what he is.

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
There probably isn't any meaning in life. Perhaps you can find something interesting to do while you are alive. Like how you found that flower. Like how I found you.
Buttons aren't toys.

I've heard Carlos and i've heard George Lopez...I must say I haven't heard a joke that is the exact same. Although, they do touch on things that are VERY similar. But quite frankly Carlos Mencia is from Hondurous (a hispanic nation) and Lopez is Mexican...they are similar in backgrounds.... and since most humor is observational, they're going to have the same observations. I doubt highly that he said "damn thats funny, i'll just steal it"
because if George Lopez, who is actually VERY well known, would have taken exception to it and as far as i know..he hasn't.

The Colbert show is a spin off of the daily show, on the same network. We're talking about two completely different people. And that's a format. Not creative material.Styrofoam wrote:by the way....The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report....nearly the same exact thing.
'Carlos' is also half german. And his name is Ned Holness. He's just completely unoriginal.
He stole material. It's not a coincidence. Don't be stupid, honestly.

Flat out stealing other's material is lame. I've hardly ever seen a comedian make it who has done so.
However, I do think there has been a lot of comedy that has been "lost" over time. And, like artists re-record old songs, I'd like to see some good comedians, with acknowledgement to the original writers, do shows with jokes from comedians from days past. For instance, any and everything Rodney Dangerfield did, from "no respect" (I went into McDonalds and they said I didn't deserve a break!) to his ugly girlfriend (Three guys broke into her apartment... She yelled "RAPE!" They yelled "NO!!")
And people like Richard Pryor or Sam Kinison. It would be hard to mimic their delivery, which was 90% of their content, but man, they had funny stuff.
