applebee's customers can suck my...
I'm a server at applebees, which means i only get $2.13 an hour, so naturally i depend on tips for money...i dont understand how people cant know this...
Last night, me and another girl had to take a table of 30 (which isnt that bad considering i had to help w/a table of 70 on sunday), but i still didnt wanna do it. anyway, we only had 7 servers, one manager, one bar tender and three cooks and we get slammed. i'm talking like 150 or so people come in all within a matter of 10 minutes (mostly big tops - tables w/large amounts of people) but we get slammed none the less....
so this table of 30 starts getting really pissed off that they've had to wait for their food, and that not all of it was coming out at the same time...so on like $300 worth of food they leave a total of just over $17 for TWO of us to split...so after all the shit we had to put up w/we only got like $8.50 each. i went home w/less than $20 last night after almost a 6 hour shift...
unfortunately for one of the women in the group, she left her digital camera, and lets just say there were some additional pictures on it when she came back for it....i didnt do any of them, and i'm hoping i dont get in trouble for it since it was my table.
moral of the story, if the place is beyond packed w/50 some odd people waiting for tables, it isnt the servers fault that your food takes twice as long to get out, especially when they are understaffed.
i hate my job! (anyone even read that? lol)

I've worked in restaurants myself, and my best friend's wife was distric manager for applebee's in our area for quite a while as well before she quit to pursue other career options.
Basically it sounds to me like your managers are not doing their jobs. If you guys are constantly getting slammed without enough staff, then they need to restructure their shift schedules in order to keep the restaurant staffed adequately.
And there are always customers who suck .... I am hoping that at least you did not have to "tip out" to other staff in the restaurant from that money as well. I have taken care of tables where I lost money even though they left a tip because we (as servers) had to give a percentage of out total ringout for the evening to the bartenders, bus boys, and expoditers. THAT sucked!

we dont EVER get that busy on a Wednesday night, ever....so normally that would have been enough people...and one of the managers we had on (the other was playing bar tender) was completely worthless and hid out in his office most the time...i HATE that guy.
anyway, i did have to tip out, we dont have bus boys and we dont tip the expo, so its just the bar tender. but 10% of nothing is still more than i want to give them especially since last night he had his own tables and was racking in more than most of us. ( and alot of his tables were regulars, so they understood and didnt get angry)
the only reason i dont drop this job is b/c i love most the people i work w/and i get a weeks paid vacation at the end of next month....plus i hate starting over, b/c i know pretty much how to do everything at this point.

man 2.13$ an hour, even with tip... thats so low!
i think the minimum wage for tip salaries is about 6.75-7$ here
to me thats just insanely low...
unless your getting paid under the table or something
even then, it doesnt seem normal to me
edit : heres our government official page on minimum wage :

Minimum wage here is $5 something....like 5.25 or so...not sure...
oh, the woman w/the camera called today...she's PISSED about the pics on the camera, our store is in a shit load of trouble from what i gather...i didnt take any of the pics, but i'm still afraid i'm going to get in some sort of trouble...even though i dont think i will, still feel i had a part in it.
i was told that up in like minnisota (sp) servers get like $6 an hour plus tips, that would be SO awesome. i'm just lucky that i still live at home b/c i dont make enough to live on my own, i do good to pay for gas for my car. we need to up the hourly wages for servers to atleast 4 bucks...but that wont happen

wow that wage sucks.....
Isn't it illegal to be paid less than minimum age (or are you under the age bracket? sorry I don't know)?
My wage isn't great and it works out at $8.78 an hour (£5).
If you're willing to put up with a job you hate, go for a bank job (e.g. typing or phoning up people telling them how in debt they are and how little time they have to pay it back.
Over here you can make about $13-14 an hour for doing that sort of thing.

The rule is, for anyone wondering.
Minimum wage is 5.15 an hour. However, if you make tips they can pay you much, much lower. I believe, at the end of your pay cycle if you don't make at least 5.15 per hour worked the job is suppose to make up the difference. But unless they record the tips, good luck getting them to do this.
Even so. If you worked 4 nights in a week, 6 hours each. And only pulled in $20 three of those days. Then the forth day made $64. The job wouldnt owe you a dollar. Shitty but true.
The real question is. How did you leave with less than $20? I'll assume that doesn't include your $2.13 an hour. But seriously, shouldn't the bigger issue you be why over a 6 hour shift the rest of your tables tipped you less than $12.
Did you work any other tables that night?

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
There probably isn't any meaning in life. Perhaps you can find something interesting to do while you are alive. Like how you found that flower. Like how I found you.

I had two tables before the table of 30 came in, and they tipped $5 each. (and the amount i took home didnt include hourly)
whats really bad, last night i went in and there was a group of 60, it was the original 30 plus 30 more...and all their food was free. they had called corporate and threatened to sue us so we had to cough up as much food as they wanted for free. (ended up being around $600 or so)
oh, and the manager that took the pictures on that ladies camera (yes, was a manager that did it) was fired yesterday. i feel as though i had something to do with it so i feel extreme guilt when i think of him being fired.
