PvP and the best experience since Diablo 2

Post by Crow »

Was sitting around killing time on Christmas day with WoW loaded up and went to go find one of the battlegrounds that I heard a little about. (SWG people know what battlegrounds are but sadly theres nothing in them  )

Load into a level 20-29 Warsong Gulch battle, turns out its cap the flag and being 28 and in my first real pvp experience other then ganking or getting ganked while fighting a mob I didn't know what to expect.

Round 1. We got owned, no one communicated and we just got blasted by some ultra twinked rogue that kept ganking me and using his lifesteal enchants to ruin our fun.

Round 2. We fought back and it was a 3/3 alliance victory to our 2/3 flag caps. I carried the flag back once with my Warlock and talked shit in our Raid channel about the Alliance getting owned by a squirrel. Much fun was had.

Round 3. 10 vs 9 and by far the worst fight ever. 8 of the alliance jerk offs were totally twinked. 5 of the Horde tards bailed when we got rolled.

Rounds 4 - 13. We dominated, with less then one capture by the Alliance every other round. My kills went from 10 to 20 a round to nearly 53 when I was playing defense/hunter. Round 4 started with us taking the middle and holding it, as our sides clashed the Squirrel would run into their base, hit a defender if any with a curse, a corruption and a pet attack and gank them. I capped the flag 3 times that round and 2 times the next round then hung back and ran interference for the next 9 instances. We actually fought the same Alliance team 5 times in a row and they never figured out our strat of 7-8 in the middle and 2 running to the flag. The same jackass rogue ganked me 5+ times each round.

Every round was marked with some rogue that went only for me, some hunter that went only for me or some paladin that filled his pants everytime he saw me coming. Total kills numbered in the mid 300's and I gained a rank and a half just from one day of pure killing.

By far the most fun I've had since D2, better then any SWG fight. Communication and teamwork were #1, Levelling a toon up to 29 just for WSG runs is the new goal.

WoW is the pvp you were made for zo, when you get past the zone ganking by high level kids who get all tight in the pants at ganking someone 35 levels below them and into the instance battles you'd be amazed.

No one class between 20-29 has a huge advantage over the other classes, there are fine exceptions when you look at uber twinked toons and just plain good players. I could see you and a couple of the guys making specific toons for the 20-29 instance and just running the show everytime we load into it.

WSG is the least fun IMHO, too. the classes seem really balanced at 60 for PVP, where any class has the ability to own depending on the player and not as much as the items (except for maybe warriors)

Ya it's fun, I'm glad you had fun.

Roam, foam and myself are making toons specifically for WSG but as my play time has been limitted due to RL issues until at best next week Monday we haven't gotten far on them.

Squirrels is ready to roll as a lock, and don't be fooled even between 24-29 you should be effective in WSG even though your gear choices may be less then desirable at lower levels. Be aware that as a priest you're target #1, most casters and hunters are since they do the most damage the quickest if left alone.

Funny that a newcomer has this attitude (lots of people arent pleased with the instanced battlegrounds and like the "roaming world pvp" more. personally im not one of them but i dislike wsg for my own reason)

secret to winning warsong gulch

make druid

make druid herbalist

make free action potions

stealth to flag, steal, sprint out with your free action pot and win

=/

oh yea make sure its alliance for paladin blessing of freedom to be really unstoppable

also, Arathi Basin at lvl 50-59 bracket is great (because its relatively balanced at that level - where if you lvl to 60 and start playing with all the epic'd out raiders its very hard to compete due to the item difference)

We've found that to consistantly run WSG we need to hold the middle and slowly work our ways up. Nine times out of ten my warlock is running the flag more then any tank classes and unless a hunter clips me and unloads I'm home free. Ran the instance 3 times last night for 100 kills even 5 flag caps and 2 total victories.

Are you playing with pugs or organised teams though ?

It really differs on what you can do with a guild group, we would never have anything besides a warrior rogue druid or shaman grab the flag (in ideal circumstances) because of survivability or mobility (cloth gets wtfgibbed too fast)

we would usually do 2-3 offence, 2-3 base, 5 offensive (warriors w/healers, and ranged dps) in the middle

the offence would be a stealth team usually a rogue/druid + something, they would sneak up to flag room and wait until the 7-8 others kill the other team (or die trying... very rare for us lol), then they would sap the defence and sprint the hell out of their base with the flag. The 7 - 8 others would break off and have 2-3 go back to the base (usually a mage / warlock to cc any lone wolves) with the rest heading up to their base and backing up the flag carrier, then we'd escort them home ftw

sometimes if they would turtle in the base we would switch and send like 7-8 guys straight into their base, aoe them to death and get me or another warrior to grab their flag, then walk back like a giant wrecking ball (warrior at 60 with good gear and healers = awesome personal offence/defence, just lacks mobility lol)

it was crazy fun but for us horde there was only one way to win (legit)

the cheap assed alliance teams sometimes did the mind control cap your flag carrier -> blessing of protection to make him drop the flag (that was gay shit) or the blessing of freedom druid + free action pot to basically have a stealthed, unsnarable flag running machine (they'd be like 3/4 back to base since defence rarely could stop them due to druid shifting/free action/freedom blessing)

good times

at lowbie wsg personally i think a twinked out rogue or shaman, maybe a druid, would be most effective but w/e you have fun with the most is what counts

personally the exploiting by the alliance on my server really pissed me off lol, and i wasnt the largest fan of the stealthed rogue capper, preferring to walk in and out with all swords swinging hehehe (never lost the barbarian spirit !)

Skit, I don't know if its happening on your server, but on Illidan, many people with 60s are making twinked up lvl 29s for WSG. They are doing things like helping a hunter get all the way through the Nessingwary quests (can be had at 28 and finished at 29) and getting the Master Game Hunter weapon(s), etc.

There seems to be more lvl 20-29 WSG than anything. People seem to like it because noone has a mount, and generally things have more balance.

Foam, Crow, (and soon Roam and Zo, hopefully) if you REALLY want to kick butt in BGs, then you need to organize a small guild, get Vent and do it that way. When we get 15 Blood Legion (and always on Vent) into an AB, we're virtually unstoppable. A LOT of that has to do with our communications being instant, and we are a lot more coordinated. Sure we're all epic-clad, but more than anything, we know whats going on everywhere at all times. A lot more fun, too.
Old Man.
